刘小东2020项目“你的朋友”同名纪录片。将纪录片、日记等形式纳入自己的作品呈现中一直是刘小东的一大创作特色，借由这种方式，他为绘画增加了一层“现场”，甚至让人联想到行为艺术作品通常伴随的影像记录形式。展览中，一排展示柜里陈列着他的手写日记。他在里面抄下了歌曲《你的朋友》的歌词，这首歌也出现在纪录片的尾声：“你的城，你的山水，你的朋友；天改得蓝一点，墙改得黑一点，柱子改得粗一点，事儿改得对一点。” 　　在这部时长90多分钟的影片中，能够看到《宁岱同学亲自笑了》以及其他在王小帅工作室露台上创作的作品背后的故事。也正是在那里，刘小东为喻红画下了一幅站立肖像，有着北方特质的瘦削树枝旁，喻红身穿一身黑衣，手中拿着用途不明的工具；在影片中，它与另一段镜头交替出现：那是1994年王小帅执导的电影《冬春的日子》，刘小东和喻红扮演了画家冬与春，“表演”着画与被画的人。“时间在我的生命里是不可复制，也不可逾越的，我把三十多年的时间呈现给大家。”

...[Lev Kuleshov] created a monument to her[Aleksandra Khokhlova] with Vasha znakomaya/Zhurnalistka, a film which premiered in Moscow on the 25th October 1927. A monument which unfortunately today survives only as a fragment of 358 meters (its fourth reel, the original length amounted to 1800m). The female protagonist, a scatterbrained, clumsy, impudent female journalist, answers to the name of "Khokhlova". She is a modern woman, in-your-face and interesting in both the way she dresses and the way she handles the men who surround her in her everyday working life: she writes almost all of them off as wimps but the one she loves, a functionary, proves to be a conformist: disappointment ensues. For Kuleshov, erasing intrigue leads to the possibility to focus attention on the details of ordinary life, to see the familiar anew. The mise-en-scène is unique, with razor-sharp contours and extreme lighting provided on the one hand by Aleksandr Rodchenko with his constructivist design of the materialistic world, and on the other hand by cameraman Konstantin Kuznecov with his "svetotvorchestvo" (light-making) already known from Po zakonu. 　　In a year filled with Revolutionary festivities, a film about Soviet ordinary life, not to mention one so in love with objects as to border on the realms of documentary yet still remain highly artificial, was something of a provocation. Not just for that reason did the critics condemn Vasha znakomaya, as they had done Po zakonu before it, as "formalist", even "immoral".

Caetano Gotardo, whose contribution to the omnibus film Neverquiet (Film of Wonders) was screened in 2011 at IFFR, stays close to home in his second feature. He writes, directs, edits and also plays the leading role. The story is set in the Brazilian artists’ milieu. 　　Joao has extensive conversations with friends, strangers and himself. For instance with his best friend Irene, who cannot let go of memories of her ex; and the boy he meets in the metro, with whom he wants to have sex. Beside life and love, the creative process is a recurring theme in the conversations, in the best traditions of filmmakers like Éric Rohmer or Hong Sang-soo. Piece by piece, the encounters, conversations and monologues have a great influence on Joao, who literally wrestles with his attitude to life. A puzzle unfolds within which time, narrative, character and perspective are all jumbled up in an intriguing way.
